Something from nothing?
I have always liked the idea of creating something amazing from everyday items (thanks Marcel Duchamp). It takes someone special to see the potential in an object and someone even more special to carry it into fruition.
This installation stood out to me not only because it draws out the extraordinary from the ordinary, but also because of the dynamic contrasts that interplay. The use of black and white is obvious, but the more interesting is the way in which the work appears dynamic when it is static, and fluid or organic when it is neither.
I also like the idea of arriving at a gallery for your exhibition with nothing but a few rolls of tape and some scissors and just making things happen in much the same manner as Alexander Calder did in his early days with wire.
